چکیده

The authors review a prospectively accrued database of consecutive patients to assess the effectiveness of the off‐label routine use of intrathecal fluorescein to detect an intraoperative cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) leak during endoscopic endonasal skull base surgery. Patients were pretreated with intravenous dexamethasone and diphenhydramine prior to administration of 25 mg of fluorescein injected immediately before surgery via lumbar puncture or lumbar drain. Basic white light illumination from the endoscope was used to identify the presence of unstained or fluorescein‐tinged CSF during the procedure. Endoscopic endonasal approach for cerebrospinal fluid fistulae.

Different techniques have been proposed to repair cerebrospinal fluid rhinorrhea. Advances in nasal surgery led to a high success rate and low morbidity for the endonasal approach. It has become the favorite route for treating cerebrospinal fluid leaks of the anterior skull base. Better results have been obtained with the improvement of rigid endoscopes and intrathecal sodium fluorescein. In a ...

A Prospective Study To Evaluate The Role Of Perioperatve Cerebrospinal Fluid Diversion By Lumbar Drain In Transnasal Transsphenoidal Tumor Surgeries

Background &Aim: The endoscopic endonasal transsphenoidal approach has been widely employed as a treatment for pituitary adenomas and other parasellar tumors. However, the major concerns related to endoscopic endonasal transsphenoidal surgery include the risks of CSF leak post-operatively leading to morbidity and at times mortality due to severe meningitis. Several studies in the past have foun...

The use of low- dose intrathecal fluorescein in endoscopic repair of cerebrospinal fluid rhinorrhea.

BACKGROUND Intrathecal injection of fluorescein is a useful adjuvant method for localization of fistulas in endoscopic endonasal repair of cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) leakage. Although being neurotoxic in commercial doses, a low dose of diluted fluorescein seems to be safe on the basis the existing data in the literature. OBJECTIVES The purpose of this study was to investigate the role of a low...

Transnasal endoscopic treatment of cerebrospinal fluid leak: 17 years' experience.

Aim of this report is to describe the long-term results of endoscopic endonasal repair of cerebrospinal fluid leak using a septal mucoperichondrial graft. A case series of 52 patients operated for cerebrospinal fluid rhinorrhea between 1990 and 2006 is presented. All patients underwent surgical treatment for endoscopic endonasal closure of a cerebrospinal fluid leak using a septal mucoperichond...
